Visitation for Athena N. DeMet (nee Goulakos), 84, of Barrington, formerly of Chicago, will be held Friday, January 22, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine. Funeral Services will be held privately with the family at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 23, 2021 at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church.  An Interment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.

She was the beloved wife of George DeMet; loving mother of Georgia DeMet and Roni (late Alfred) DeMell; loving YiaYia of Christina Zirretta, Vincent Mangiameli and Nicholas (Michelle) Mangiameli; loving Nonna of Mason Potts; dear daughter of the late John and Anna (nee Mesologiton) Goulakos; fond sister and aunt.  Also, she loved her beloved dog, Noula.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be appreciated to St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 525 Church Road, Elgin, Illinois, 60123.

Athena loved her faith and heritage and was a devoted steward of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church.  Athena began her career at a very early age in the restaurant business.  She was a server/hostess/manager for many years.  She left the industry to start a new career with the Circuit Court of Cook County.  After many years with the county, she finally retired out of the 3^rd District Clerks office.  She loved to “cabaret” with her daughters and lived life to the fullest.  Athena loved to travel and vacation in Florida with her daughters and grandchildren.  Greek music was her passion and she was a phenomenal dancer.  Athena was loved by many and will be sorely missed.
