With deepest sympathy as we all remember Darrell …
Hello Darrell – my very first PB partner,
please forgive me, if I confused You, more than I did to the other team, by running around so much in the PB Court.
And Thank You very much for Your Kindness, for being a Great Friend, … welcoming me, paying for Subway lunches, … as well as giving me a drive when I was without a car. …
Rest In Peace, Darrell. Wherever You are, You are always in Our Hearts.
So very sorry to learn of your loss. A Pickle Ball player.
Just this past fall – 4 months ago – I enjoyed playing pickleball with Darrell. He was always so kind and pleasant ! He will be missed out here on the counts. Now he’s playing on the courts in heaven
Darrell was a truly wonderful person. He was kind and thoughtful! His shots were spot on. We always loved playing with and against him. Darrell you are loved by our pickleball community and will be missed!
Hello Darrell this is Kenny, your pickle ball buddy. Lucky, Danny, Teri and I will miss you playing pickle ball and then meeting at Subway for lunch every Wednesday! I know you are up there in good hands but you will be missed by entire pickle ball community here. Specially by me! RIP.
Darrell will be greatly missed by many and remembered as a very pleasant person that was always happy playing with any one of his many friends.
My heart aches for you, his beloved family. I could not agree with everyone more, that Darrell was one of the kindness players of the sport. He learned how to play well with limited mobility and never ever complained about anything. I would always try and match the fact that he was there to take the shot and I always had to run around “way” too much. Now our teacher and example of true kindness will be missed.
Darrell will be sorely missed! I loved playing PB with Darrell, hearing him slapping his thigh with the paddle and yelling “over”, willing the ball to get over the net!
He had a kind heart, was nice and friendly to everyone!
May God hold you in the palm of His hand, RIP
Darrell would always be modest. I remember when I congratulated him on winning the Gold in the six-county tournament about four years ago. He told me he got the Gold because he was about the only 75 plus year-old still swinging that day.
We’ve lost six Palatine Picklers, since I started the Palatine Pickleball Club six years ago. Each was extremely sad and hard, but I have to say only Darrell’s passing brought me to tears. He was always there. He volunteered to be on my Board of Directors. He volunteered to create early sign-up promotions. He ran a summer-long tournament. He always smiled, when he said, “Morning, Bear.” He encouraged his partners and sincerely congratulated his victorious foes. He was the originator of playing with two forehands which I, and several others, copied. He was pretty impaired on mobility, but he always congratulated an opponent who, whether deliberately or because it was the right shnot aginst anyone dinked him while he was too far away. Once Darrell drove to my house to give me a phone that had been left at the court, knowing (correctly) that I’d be the one the phoneless person would contact. To paraphrase a Sara Lee commercial, everyone doesn’t like someone, but nobody doesn’t like Darrell. He will surely be missed.
My condolences to Darrell’s family. I so enjoyed playing pickle ball in his foursomes. He was the epitome of a fine gentleman and sportsman. RIP
From a fellow pickler, I always enjoyed playing with Darrell. A really nice man.
May Darrell’s family know how much sunshine he brought to the pickleball courts. It was always a pleasure to play a game with him. A genuinely, kind man who will be missed.
Such a sweet, kind man. Always ready to play and be your partner! He will be missed! God rest his soul and prayers and love to his family
Such a dear sweet man! So privileged to know and play pickleball with him. Always ready to play! He will be missed. Love and prayers to his family
We got to know Darrell from pickleball at Birchwood. We were always inspired playing with and against him. He was a tough competitor, with a really hard serve, but he was always fair and encouraging. We can still hear his voice yelling at himself after hitting the ball into the net, “Over, over!”
His limited mobility and age never stopped him. We often would say to each other driving home afterwards, we hope we can play like Darrell as we get older. That includes his positive attitude on and off the court treating everyone with kindness and respect.
To his family, please accept our sympathy and prayers for God’s peace and comfort in this time of your loss.
As you his family knows, Darrell was a special person. He was always a sweetheart on the Pickleball courts, full of encouragement and smiles. He will be missed!
I’m so sorry to hear of Darrell’ s passing. He was such a nice guy. Always friendly and smiling. I always enjoyed playing pickleball with him. After reading his obituary, I found out we shared the same birthday. He surely will be missed.
Darrell was my brother and I will miss him the rest of my life. Thank you so much for your kind remarks. He loved pickleball and his pickleball friends; you enriched his life. Many of your names are familiar and special thanks to Terry for finding me and letting the pickleball group know of his passing.
So sorry to hear of Darrells passing..He was such a nice guy and a gracious pickleball player. He will be missed.
To the family of Darrell, my sincere condolences to you and yours. There is a common underlying message in the many posts and I would be remiss to not mention what a kind and humble man he was both on and off the courts. He will be missed! Sincerely, Cathy Carlson
I was saddened to learn that this dear, sweet man had passed away. We met as picklers, and although his skill was intimidating at first, I quickly discovered his kindness. Someone like Darrell cannot easily be forgotten. My heart goes out to his family members. God bless.
Darrell was a gentleman on and off the courts. I appreciated his competitive spirit and enjoyed playing pickle ball with him. My deepest sympathy to the family and know he will be missed. May God give you peace.
