Connell (nee Hanck), 64, of Island Lake since 1987, will be held Monday, April 4, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine. The Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie.
Diane was born May 12, 1957 in Elmhurst, and passed away March 29, 2022 at home in Island Lake.
Diane was the beloved wife of James F. Connell; dear daughter of the late Robert and Ruth (nee Hachmeister) Hanck; fond sister of Nick, Dan, and Dave.
Diane was a great cook, baker, and a creative gardener. She enjoyed traveling, hiking, identifying plants, trees and birds. Her favorite was autumn drives and visiting apple orchards in Wisconsin, especially with bakeries!
In recent years we spent much of our summer in Door Country enjoying Newport state park, art galleries, restaurants, sunsets over the lake and campfires with full moons. She also enjoyed hiking at Glacial Park in Richmond and viewing the different migrating ducks and other birds.
She always looked forward to getting together with her friends that she had known for years. Diane had a warm personality and sense of humor that made people enjoy being around her. This was one of the many reasons I loved her and wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. We will all miss her very much.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the American Cancer Society, 1 East Wacker Drive, Suite 1500, Chicago, IL 60601
I will miss my long time friend so much. I loved her smile and her unique way of laughing. We shared many good times, silly times, stressful times and sometimes sad times. But through it all there was respect and love. My condolences to Jim and to her other friends and family members. May you find strength and comfort during this very difficult period.

Jim, Nick, Dan, David and family – we are saddened to learn of Diane’s passing. We pray God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort surrounds you at this time of sorrow and loss. May you take shelter in the shadow of the Almighty, and find refuge in Him. There are many fun memories of all the cousins playing together at family gatherings as kids. Please know you have our deepest sympathy.

I sat next to Diane for a couple of years at Videojet. I still miss her. She had a way of knowing the right thing to say, in any circumstance. I’m very sad to hear of her loss and my heart goes goes out to her family.
