We are sad to announce the death of Ivan H. Vazquez MD, age 96, of Schaumburg. Services and Interment will be held privately.
He died on January 11, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at Northwest Community Hospital.
Ivan, son of Oscar and Laura Maldonado Vazquez, was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He was the youngest of six siblings, Maria, Hector, Salvador, Antonio and José Raphael.
He left Puerto Rico at age 18 to attend and eventually receive his medical degree from Marquette University.
His accomplished career includes serving as a Captain in the US Amy Medical Service Corps for 8 years. He was a founding physician at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. He was also one of the first doctors to open a private practice in Hoffman Estates.
He was the beloved father to Jean (Rodney) Domenech, the late Peter Vazquez, Ann (Jim) Miller, Michael (Cindy) Vazquez, Nancy (John) Erdmann and Patty (Stevan) Pavlovich. He has 15 loving grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his cherished partner Linde Wentling.
The funeral will be a private ceremony with close family members only. We invite you to make a donation to JourneyCare Hospice or Northwest Community Hospital in his honor, in place of sending flowers.
My doctor since I was 7 years old. He would make house calls in Hoffman Estates. He served as our family doctor…always faithful and always creatively professional….brilliant research mind! He was my primary physician until he retired…He saved my life and the lives of my family members with his intuitive and insightful diagnostic approach. Gave me the recipe for Plantains… Bendiciones…see you on the other side…
