Alfred T. A. Helgesen, 89, an 81 year resident of Palatine.

Visitation for Alfred T.A. Helgesen will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2013 from 3:00pm until 9:00pm with Masonic Services at 7:30p.m. being conducted by Palatine Masonic Lodge #314 A.F. & A.M. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00a.m., Friday, also at the funeral home.  Interment will be private.

Alfred was born on September 30, 1923 in Chicago, IL the son of the late Reginald and Sarah A. (Suthers) Helgesen and passed away on Monday, June 3, 2013.

Alfred was a 1942 graduate of PalatineHigh School. Following high school Alfred married his high school sweetheart Doris J. Sward on June 19, 1942.  He later entered the U.S. Army in July of 1945 and served during WWII and was discharged in 1946. Upon his return he was a cofounder with his brother Howard of Helgesen Brothers Service Station on Rand Road in Palatine and subsequently became principal owner and operator until the time of his retirement in 1988.  Alfred was an active member of the Palatine Masonic Lodge #314 A.F. & A.M. for over fifty years.  He was a 32nd degree Mason, had served as secretary of the Lodge and was a 2 time Past Master.

Beloved husband of 56 years of the late Doris J. (nee Sward) Helgesen; loving father of Kenneth L. (late Patricia) Helgesen, Carol Anne (Craig) Johnson, Terry L. (Joanie) and Larry A. (Monica) Helgesen and the late Nancy (late Alan) Littman; dear grandfather of 12; great grandfather of 14; dear brother of Lois (late William) Gritmacker, Anna Mae (late Ed) Cooper, Elaine (Late Walter) Swanson and the late Howard (late Joan) Helgesen and the late Helen (late Richard) Bartsch; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated in memory of Alfred, for the Illinois Masonic Children’s Home, 441 9th Avenue, La Grange, IL  60525 or to the Salvation Army, 609 W. Dempster Street, Des Plaines, IL  60016.
