Barbara H. Destry

Visitation for Barbara Helen Destry (nee Kilburg), 80, of Palatine passed away peacefully after a long illness, will be held Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church 1201 E. Anderson Dr., Palatine, IL 60074.  An Interment will follow at St. Mary of the Annunciation Cemetery in Mundelein,
IL.

Barbara was born July 4, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in the Beverly neighborhood. She attended St. Barnabas Grammar School and Academy of Our Lady (now Longwood Academy).  After graduation, Barbara began working as a Dental Assistant in Chicago.  During that time, she met and married her beloved husband Donald in 1959. They were married 54 years.

Their family moved to Palatine in 1970.  Barbara was a longtime volunteer at St. Thomas of Villanova Church. She was a past Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader.  She loved her summer home in northern Wisconsin where she enjoyed watching loons, ducks, birds, wildlife and the peace and tranquility of the North woods.  She also enjoyed family gatherings and holiday celebrations.  An avid water skier, Barbara water-skied each year on her birthday from her childhood until she was 75.

She is survived by her beloved husband Donald M. Destry and her four children whom she adored: Christopher (Susan) Destry of Zionsville, Indiana, Laura (Keith) Hunt of Hawthorn Woods, Lynn Destry of Round Lake and Julie Destry of Lake Zurich.  She is also survived by her sister Faith (Robert deceased) McNamara of Chicago. Barbara also has four beautiful grandchildren whom she cherished: Katherine and Daniel Destry of Zionsville, Indiana and Delaney and Kevin Hunt of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her twin brother, William (Judy) Kilburg of Florida.
