Basil G. Gerontakis

Visitation for Basil G. Gerontakis, 80 of Arlington Heights for 50 years, will be on Monday, May 19, 2014 from 3:00pm until 7:00pm at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine.  Prayers will be said on Tuesday, 9:15am at the Funeral Home and proceed to St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 133 South Roselle Rd., Palatine, for a 10:00am Funeral Service.  Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington.Basil was born in Naxos, Greece on January 6, 1934 to George and Angeline (nee Vasolakis) Gerontakis .  He died Friday, May 16, 2014 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

Basil served the Navy in Greece.  While he was an exchange student for the Navy as an Electrical Engineer at Great Lakes Naval Base, he met his soon to be wife, Theodora.  Upon completion in the Navy, Basil graduated from DeVry. He worked at Northwest Community Hospital for 20 years as an engineer.  Basil was a founding member of St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church in Palatine.   His kindness will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Basil is survived by his wife, Theodora (nee Botsios) whom he married June 6, 1963. Also, his son, George,  his late daughter, Mary; and his Sister Roula in Athens, Greece.
