The Memorial Visitation for Bruce K. Stephens, 84, a 28 year resident of Lake Zurich, will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich from 2:00p.m. until the time of the Masonic and Memorial Services beginning at 4:00PM.  The Interment will be private.

Bruce was born on October 9, 1930 in Danbury, CT the son of the late Harold K. and Ethel (nee Johnson) Stephens and passed away peacefully on Saturday morning November 1, 2014 with his family at his bedside.

Bruce graduated from Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy and was married to his sweetheart Nancy (nee Crouse) Stephens in the spring of 1953.  He then served with the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant during the Korean War.

Following Bruce’s discharge from the Navy he began a career in the petroleum industry employed by Texaco Oil Company working in New York and Genoa, Italy, where he served as Director of Overseas Maritime Operations.  He then joined Amoco Oil Company as Director of the Maritime Department.  Following Amoco he was employed by Maritime Overseas Corporation as Chief Mate with a Captains License during which time he served in Operation Desert Storm.

Bruce was a 50 year member of the Masonic Order with his home Lodge being Palatine Masonic Lodge #314 A.F. & A.M where was a Past Master. He also was an honorary member of numerous other lodges throughout the area.

Bruce is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Nancy Stephens with whom he shared a happy marriage. Loving father of Ann (John) Wonak, Terrie (Gary) Birginal, David (Anita) Stephens; dear grandfather of Adam and Paul Wonak, Rev. Keith (Rebecca) Birginal, Kimberly (Rev. David) Rende, Michael and Jason Stephens; dear great grandfather of Quinn and Jenna Rende; fond brother of Jan (James) Duval and William Stephens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials, in memory of Bruce, would be appreciated for the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2211 N. Oak Park Avenue, Chicago, IL 60707 or to JourneyCare Hospice, 405 Lake Zurich Road, Barrington, IL 60010.
