Bruce S. Kovac, 69, of Round Lake, IL, passed away January 10, 2015 after an 8-month struggle with lung cancer. He was born November 10, 1945 in Chicago, IL, the son of Steven and Sally (nee Moteyeka) Kovac.
He attended the Catholic School system in Chicago and, after moving to Mundelein, IL, graduated from Mundelein High School in 1963. Bruce went on to attend the Illinois Institute of Technology, earning a degree in Mechanical Drafting. Working for several area employers, Bruce gained experience in a variety of trade crafts. For over fifteen years, he was a Certified Asbestos Remover, working in a variety of buildings throughout the area in that capacity. Bruce served his country through the United States Naval Reserves. He also served as a Lake County Election Judge for 10 years.
Always an outdoors man, he enjoyed a variety of sports, including skating, playing football in high school, working on his uncle’s farm during summer vacations, and was a very good swimmer. His biggest love however, was fishing – anytime of the year. Bruce’s second outdoor love was gardening. His prolific vegetable garden every summer was shared with family and friends, and it brought smiles to his face. And, of course, he loved to eat.
Members of Bruce’s family include his wife, Lesly A. (nee Mandernack) of Round Lake, two sons, David of Crystal Lake, and Timothy of Island Lake and six grandchildren; his sister, Barbara Greeder (Donald) of St. Charles, MO; nieces, nephews and cousins; three step-children, fourteen step-grandchildren, and five step-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, William.
A Celebration of Life Pot Luck Picnic will be held in the spring on May 16, 2015 at Lakewood Forest Preserve Shelter C, Wauconda, from 11:00 a.m. until sunset. Memorials may be made to the family c/o Lesly A. Kovac, 1025 Lunga Drive, Round Lake, IL 60073.
