Catherine J. Vates

Visitation for Catherine J. Vates, 77, of Gurnee, formerly of Grayslake and Chicago, will be from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine. A Funeral Mass will be said on Friday, October 4, 2019, 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Parish 7211 W Talcott. Chicago, IL. An Interment will follow at Irving Park Cemetery in Chicago.

Catherine was born on June 18, 1942 to Catherine and James Kelly. She was reunited with her parents and her beloved husband Edward Vates on Monday, September 30, 2019.

She is survived by her children, Jennifer (John) McNeill, Eric (Mary) Vates, Christian (Christy) Vates, and Douglas (Laura) Vates,; grandchildren Erin, Annie, Molly, Jessica, Erica, Emmi, Victoria, Edward, Ries, Stephanie, Gabriella, Kristina, and Josue; great granddaughter Mia; siblings James (Julie) Kelly, Michael (Sonia) Kelly, William (Marlene) Kelly, Patrick Kelly, Mary (Tommy) Torp, and Sharon (Clark) Petersen; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

She loved to travel, cook, entertain, tell stories, dance with her shoulders, send greeting cards, knit, drink tea, wear capes and collect house plants. Most of all she loved her family and will be terribly missed.
