Cecelia E. Edwards Yates

Services will be privately held for Cecelia “Ceil” Eileen Edwards Yates, 95, was one of the first babies born at Highland Park Hospital.

She was delivered by Dr. Rogers to Martha and Henry Edwards, a blind couple and longtime residents of Highland Park on January 22, 1923.

Eileen had two children, a daughter Peggy (Richard) Hebert of Lafayette, LA and a son, Harold Yates, who passed away in Florida at the age of 68.

She loved to travel to see the world: a Grand Tour of Europe, a Safari in Africa, the Panama Canal by ship, London by “Concord,” Machu Picchu in Peru, went by train through the Canadian Rockies and also from Anchorage to Fairbanks, Alaska.   She rode the subway in Moscow, entered Hong Kong Harbor on Christmas Eve, saw the Terra Cotta Warriors in China after walking the Great Wall of China at sunrise, caught the downpour in Manila, walked over the bridge on the River Kwai, swam the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, and rode the mule train to the Leper Colony on Maui.

Now she is on the greatest trip of all.  May her soul rest in peace.
