Christina M. Parr

Funeral Services for Christina M. Parr, age, 55, of Round Lake Beach, will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 11:00a.m., preceded by a Visitation from 10:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. at the Quentin Road Bible Baptist Church, 60 Quentin Road, Lake Zurich, IL. A private family burial will follow.

Christina went home to be with Our Lord May 16, 2018, at home, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Christina was a graduate of Lake Zurich High School. While attending the College of Lake County she was a Cadet/Community Service Officer with the Deerfield Police Department. She then trained as a Dispatcher and served the community for several years. Her love of serving the community led her to a 30 year career as a sworn officer with the Wheeling Police Department, retiring in 2016. At Wheeling she started the D.A.R.E program that provided classroom instruction to over 5,000 students. Christina became actively involved in the D.A.R.E organization on both the State and National level. She also instructed and mentored new D.A.R.E instructors at the Illinois State Police Academy in Springfield.  The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board awarded her a certificate as a Crash Reconstruction Specialists. She was the 2014 Investigator of the Year for her outstanding achievement and continuous contributions to the Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County. Other accomplishments during her career included Child Passenger Safety Technician and an Instructor for a Women’s Self Defense course required for all girls in the High School. She was a frequent and beloved Instructor at the College of Lake County. One of her most treasured achievements occurred in 1996 when she applied for the Centennial Olympic Security Team in Atlanta GA and was chosen for the team. Over 20,000 people applied for 1800 positions.

After retirement from the Wheeling Police Department in 2016, Christina, with her vast police experience, was welcomed into a position with the Village of Gurnee Police Department as their Traffic Safety Technician.

Christina was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt, friend, co-worker and a compassionate and loving human being.  She lives on in those whose lives she touched in so many ways. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, co-workers and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her mother Hazel M. Parr, her brother-in-law Terry  Wodek and a great nephew Benjamin Melrose. She is survived by her son, Nicholas T. Parr, her father,  Robert J. Parr, her siblings, Dennis Parr, Suzanne Wodek, Robert T. Parr and his wife June, Mary Albert and her husband Bruce, Debra Melrose and her husband Deacon Richard,  six nieces and nephews and 15 great nieces and nephews.

Christina had requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Quentin Road Bible Baptist Church, Ministry Program.
