Memorial visitation for Chuck Vargo will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2014 from 1:00PM until the time of the memorial service at 2:00PM at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy. Palatine. The Interment was private.
Chuck was born on December 12, 1930 and passed away on September 28, 2014. Chuck was a resident of San Marcos, California.
He was born and lived in a small town in West Virginia most of his life and considered his little home town of Philippi, where he spent his last years in West Virginia. Incidentally, he would always correct anyone who called him a ‘hillbilly,’ as he considered himself a ‘mountaineer.’ He faced prejudice because of his poverty and background, but rose above it all thanks to God’s plans for him, blessing him with great intelligence and common sense.
He ‘walked the aisle’ of the little church of his grandparents, and as a boy, accepted Christ as his Savior. He never wavered in his commitment and his faith in Jesus.
In Junior High School, he joined the school band, as well as High School, becoming their Assistant Band Director. Due to unforeseen circumstances, he quit school in his junior year to help with the household income, however, he discovered to his dismay that he could not find a job………all employers required a high school diploma. He did return to High School and received his diploma. After graduation, he was working in Pennsylvania with his father when the Korean Conflict began and he received his ‘draft invitation.’ He felt that since he already knew how to shoot a gun, he chose to serve in the Navy instead.
He should have been sent to basic training in Bainbridge, Maryland, but that facility was closed for repairs. The day after he was sent to Great Lakes, Illinois Navy Training Center, Bainbridge opened up……..God moves in amazing ways!
Illinois was where Chuck and Janet met and married. After serving his four years in the Navy, he went to work for the Power Company, (then named Commonwealth Edison Company), starting as a lineman to his retirement as a Foreman of a construction ‘gang’ when he left. During his life, God continued to use him as a Council Member, leader of home bible studies at every church he attended. He was able to retire early from Edison to enjoy a long retirement. He and Janet enjoyed traveling; visiting various family and friends throughout the country, while still serving at their current church, until his health began to decline.
He loved and served The Lord and NEVER questioned his trials and tribulations throughout his life. He loved and cherished his family and long list friends. He and Janet shared over sixty-three years of marriage, and was able to treasure times being a husband, father and grandfather as well.
