Cletis L. Poitra

September 19, 1962 — June 20, 2022

A Memorial Visitation for Cletis Layne Poitra, 59, of Palatine since 1996, formerly of White Shield ND; will be held Sunday, June 26, 2022 from 10:00 am until the time of the family remembrances at 12:30 pm at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine.  The Interment will be private.

Cletis was born September 19, 1962 in Garrison, North Dakota; and passed away Monday, June 20, 2022 at home in Palatine.

Cletis was the beloved husband of Cynthia J Poitra (nee Owsley); loving father of Aire Poitra and Dakota Poitra; dear son of the late Floyd and Maude (nee Reed) Poitra; fond brother of Geri, Melissa, and Jocelyne. Proceeded in death by his siblings Carmen, Felica (Tiny), Virginia, Craig. Beloved uncle of many.

Some interesting things you may not know about Cletis, he was a boxer. Cletis had a natural ability in the ring. He held the state title in Golden Gloves! His name in the boxing ring was Pit Bull. Fastest time he ever knocked somebody out was 2 seconds.

He graduated from Flandreau Indian School in 1980 and went on to earn his associate’s.

Cletis was also a beekeeper for a time, a landscaper, and a seismographer.

Cletis and Cyndi met in 1991 at work. They married in 1994 and in 1996 they were blessed with their first child, Aire, and in 2000 were blessed with Dakota.

Cletis loved his children very much and they loved him so very much as well. He told them he loved them every day of their lives until he was no longer here.

As a husband, he was kind, gentle and always supportive. Cyndi and Cletis would have celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary in September.

Cletis loved all animals, but especially dogs. And It’s doubtful there is a dog anywhere that loves anyone the way Scout loved Cletis.

Cletis left this world too soon. He will be dearly missed by his family.
