Visitation for David L. Ivarson, 81, of Palatine, will be held on Sunday, May 21st, 2023 from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine. Visitation will continue at 9:00 am on Monday, May 22nd, 2023 until the time of the Funeral Service at 10:00 am at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church 1190 N. Hicks Road, Palatine. Services may be viewed at: Mr. David Ivarson’s Funeral Service. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, May 23rd, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
David was born on September 9, 1941 in Chicago, IL. He attended Evanston High School, graduating in 1959. Then he went on to attend Carthage College in Carthage, IL, and was a member of Beta Phi Epsilon. He graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Mathematics. Dave met the love of his life, Kay, during his junior year. They married on June 13, 1964 and were married for 55 years. He worked for IBM in Chicago for 30 years after graduation. He was a faithful member Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Palatine, involved in Bible studies, small groups, altar guild, and other activities throughout the years.
Dave was a great story teller, an avid White Sox and Packer fan. He coached soccer and baseball, and participated in Indian Princesses and Indian Guides. He was very involved in the Palatine community, and was a Citizens Council past chairman.
He had many hobbies and interests including trains, traveling, lighthouses, American history, reading, politics, recycling, crossword puzzles, Hallmark Christmas movies, dogs, playing cards/games (especially with the grandchildren) airplanes (but not flying), drinking Tab, making pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving, and he loved his sweets, especially baking chocolate cake for his grandchildren and letting them eat it for breakfast.
Dave was a wonderful family man and friend, loving, loyal, generous, fun, charitable, kind, smart, proud of his family, faithful, and always told it like he saw it.
Dave is survived by his children Kristina (Jeffrey) Ahlgrim and Jeffrey (Kjersten) Ivarson; grandchildren Danielle Zagone, Anna (Peter) DeLaFuente, Matthew Ahlgrim, Andrew Ivarson, Joseph Ahlgrim, and Emma Ahlgrim; his sister-in-law, Molly Zarn, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Kay, and his parents Vincent and Florence Ivarson.
In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Palatine, IL and the American Kidney Fund.
