The Funeral Service and Interment for David Lindsay Porter will be private.
On Monday, January 23, 2023, David Lindsay Porter of Long Grove passed away at the age of 83. He was born on April 18, 1939, in Chicago, the only child of his doting parents, Jim and Alice Porter.
He graduated from Denison University and the University of Chicago Law School. David began his law career at McDermott, Will and Emery in Chicago, then became the General Counsel at Encyclopedia Britannica and retired as Assistant General Counsel at the Northern Trust Company.
David was fortunate to have two great loves in his life. He and his first wife Anne spent 25 happy years together before her passing in 1987. David is survived by their children, Lindsay Porter (Matt Kozlowski), Sarah Marton (Matt), and John Porter (Natasha); and by grandchildren, Larimer, Graham, Olivia, Griffin, Cooper, Emerson and CJ.
In 1990, David married his beloved second wife Oneita Craver, who survives him.
He is predeceased by his loving stepdaughter, Peggi (Randal) Huiskens.
David and Oneita spent many years as winter residents at Bay Hill in Florida, where they had wonderful friends and relished playing golf and hosting their children and grandchildren. During the summers in Long Grove, David enjoyed family parties, canasta with friends, cheering on (and cursing) the Cubs, attending Long Grove Community Church, and ensuring a steady supply of birdseed for the feathered friends who flocked to his feeders.
He was a dog lover, crossword solver, Jeopardy fan, avid walker, former marathon runner, joke teller, gardener, and above all a decent, kind, loyal, and generous man.
He will be missed by all who loved him.
