Visitation for David Ray Bennett, 72, of Itasca, IL, will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2020 from noon until the time of the Memorial Service, 3:00p.m. at Willow Creek Community Church, 67 E Algonquin Rd, South Barrington, IL in the Chapel.
Dave died Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Elk Grove Village, IL following a lengthy illness.
Born the son of Ray and Marietta Bennett at St Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA the oldest of four children and was united in marriage to Christine E Crosby on May 11, 1974 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Elgin, IL. Dave graduated from Marion High School in 1965. Dave went onto complete his Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering from DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL. Dave started his career with Western Electric in Chicago, IL. During his career he worked also at AT&T, Lucent Technologies, Tyco Electronics and Alcatel Lucent. Dave continued to work closely with other phone technology companies. Dave loved aviation and was a private pilot and he flew single engine aircraft. Dave also was very talented behind the lens of a camera photographing family, friends and eventually wedding photos. Dave with Chris enjoyed serving their Lord and Savior at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, IL. Dave loved the community that he was involved with when he helped set-up the stage for the week-end services and also during the rehearsals. Hospitality was Dave’s middle name. He enjoyed to cook and bake and he eventually transitioned from stage team member to serving the stage teams their evening meal before the service. Dave and Chris were famous for their ummmm rather large Christmas parties that were held in their Itasca home. It was not uncommon to have close to 200 people in their Cape Cod home on Hickory Drive. Here again Dave shined with his food. Dave was very proud of the fact that he was a member of the Sons of American Legion (SAL) Post 1084 in Roselle, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Christine (nee Crosby) Bennett. Joan Shultz, her husband Rick Shultz of Des Moines, IA, Sarah Hedrick, her husband Jim Hedrick of Wilmington, DE, nephew and nieces, Michael Shultz, Jenna Shultz, Jamie Hedrick, Marisa Morgan and an aunt, Bernice Carnahan of Arizona. Many sisters and brother in laws and many nieces, nephews and cousins that are too numerous to name and count.
Preceding Dave in death are his parents, Ray and Marietta Bennett, a brother Mark Bennett, grandparents Cleve and Mabel Bennett, Ralph and Emma Robinson and niece Rebecca Jane Shultz.
Chris expresses deep appreciation for the kind care that Dave received during his many hospitalizations in the last six months at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village and the Rehabilitation Hospital across the street.
