A Memorial Mass celebrating Doris Mae Bowman’s life will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016, 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 455 N. Benton St., Palatine, Illinois, followed by a private Interment at St. Michael the Archangel in Palatine.
Doris, 92, of Palatine, Illinois, formerly of LaPorte, Indiana, passed at home on Monday August 22, 2016 and was born July 9, 1924 in LaPorte, Indiana.
She was the beloved daughter of Arthur and Mary (nee Kramer) Hilgendorf. United in marriage on June 19, 1948, Doris was the cherished wife of Richard “Dick” K. Bowman. He preceded her in death on June 30, 2012. They were married for 64 wonderful years and members of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Palatine since 1956.
Doris graduated from LaPorte High School in 1942, and as a young woman worked at the LaPorte Savings Bank. She also worked in the “North room” at Carson Pirie Scott for several years after relocating to Palatine, Illinois.
Doris was a loving mother and is survived by her children, Lawrence (Carolyn) Bowman of Kildeer, Illinois, and Patrick (Vickie) Bowman of Palatine, Illinois. She was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren, Sarah, Paul Brent, Tracy, Kacie and Ryan. Doris was a devoted Aunt to many nieces and nephews and a cherished friend to many.
In retirement Dick and Doris had a summer home built in Cornucopia, Wisconsin, on the beautiful shores of Lake Superior, as a legacy to their family. Summers were spent riding horses, sailing, boating and enjoying the beaches with the family dog “Bo”. Even today “Corny Cabin” is still enjoyed and shared with family and friends.
In addition to her husband, Doris was preceded in death by her seven brothers, and one sister.
As Doris said, “The things that she valued the most in life, were her family and friends.”
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Theresa Catholic Church, 455 N. Benton Street, Palatine, IL 60067, or to the American Cancer Society 225 N. Michigan Ave. S-1200, Chicago, IL 60601
