Dorothy passed away peacefully in her home June 10, 2017, at the young age of 86.

She is preceded in death by her stepmother Doris Jefferson, husband Norman Overbey, companion Henry Pietrzak, sons Jerry and Keith Overbey, brothers George, Frank, Bill and Charlie Lehrmann and sister Joan Crotty.  She was a loving mother to Darrell (Debra) Overbey, Nita (late Rudy) Gonzalez (Raymond Johnson), Susan (late Keith) Overbey, Lauri (late Jerry) Overbey, April (Ed) Austin, and David (Franca) Overbey.  She adored every one of her 23 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

In addition to her own, she became “Grandma O” to so many, to whom she left such a lasting impression. She was also Aunt to countless nieces and nephews and a dear sister to Thom Jefferson.

Dorothy was born in Chicago, IL to Herman Jefferson and Marie Wastel Jefferson on June 19, 1930. She married the late Norman Overbey on July 22, 1950 and they enjoyed a wonderful life together raising their six children in Palatine, IL.  She worked for United Airlines for 25 years and found her passion – TRAVEL.  She loved nothing more than helping people and traveling so she volunteered as a nurse’s aide in Peru, while enjoying the adventures of parasailing and touring Machu Picchu.  She became companion to the late Henry Pietrzak and they spent their later years traveling the world together while residing in Upland, CA.  She moved back to IL in 2010 as her health declined to be with her family.

Dorothy left an impression on everyone she met.  She will be remembered as one of a kind, loving, selfless, and compassionate.  She was a gift to every life she touched and was truly a saint.
