Dorothy M. Mattern

A Memorial Visitation for Dorothy Mae (Dotty) Mattern (nee Kleedorfer), 95, will be held Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Memorial Service at 12:00 P.M., at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine.

Dotty passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, December 4, 2017, in her daughter’s home in Mundelein, IL.

Dotty was born August 27, 1922 in Cincinnati, OH, where she received her training as a Registered Nurse at Deaconess Hospital during WWII.  While in training, she met and later married Robert Lorenz (Bob) Mattern, a cadet in the Army Air Corps.  Following the war, Dotty and Bob settled in Palatine, IL, where Dotty raised a family, was extremely active in community, social and charitable organizations and in contributing to the community through her career as a nurse administrator.  Upon their retirement, Dotty and Bob moved to Fort Collins, CO, where Dotty continued to expand her web of friendships.

Dotty was loved by many, had an insatiable curiosity about everything and was willing to try almost anything at least once.  She will be missed but will always be remembered by those who knew her.

Dotty is survived by her children and their spouses, Thomas (Lorna) Mattern of Cambridge, NY, James (Marsie) Mattern of Fort Collins, CO and Mary (Leon) Paz of Mundelein, IL; her grandchildren and their spouses Henry Kelly-Mattern of Cambridge, NY, Keith Kelly-Mattern of New Port Richey, FL, Christopher(Elizabeth) Paz of Fox Lake, IL and Anthony (Kristina)Paz of Fort Collins, CO; and her great-grandchildren Noah and Samuel Paz of Fox Lake, IL.  Dotty was predeceased by her husband, Robert L. Mattern, and by her parents, William and Harriet (nee Lemkuhl) Kleedorfer of Cincinnati, OH.

In lieu of flowers, Dotty requested that memorials be made to American Red Cross (PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037-0839), Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105) or The American Heart Association (3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674)
