Douglas M. Hess

Funeral Mass for Douglas M. Hess, 85, of Cary and Palatine, will be held at a later date.

Douglas was born September 21, 1934 to Douglas Sr. and Emma (nee McDonald) Hess in Detroit, Michigan; and passed away May 1, 2020 in St. Charles.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Judith (nee Behrendt) Hess; they were looking forward to their 60th wedding anniversary on June 18, 2020; children, Douglas III (Jennifer) Hess, Diane (Kenneth) Kinsch and Bryan (Dawn) Hess; 12 grandchildren, Stephanie (Daniel) Taylor, Michael (Jessica) Hess, Jennifer (Brian) Moran, Elizabeth (fiancée, Daniel Throgmorton)Hess, Christopher Hess, Andrew (Lindy) Dahl, Megan (Taylor) Fleming, Ryan (fiancée, Amanda Phillis) Hess, Rebecca Hess, Kaitlyn Kinsch, Kenna Kinsch and Ansley Wells; 7 great-grandchildren, Connor, Henry, Archer, Lyla, Lainey, Waylon, Judith and an 8th great-grandchild due in August; brother, Brian (Carole) Hess; sisters, Mary Smith and Judith Hess; sister-in-law, Bernadine Hess; and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Greg Platt, his caregiver.

Preceded in death by his son, Joseph P. Hess; parents, Douglas and Emma Hess; father and mother-in-law, Paul and Mary Behrendt; sister, Patricia Booth and brother, Paul Hess.

Douglas served in the Army during the Korean War and attended the University of Detroit. Doug’s greatest joy was helping others. He was a proud member of the Alcoholics Anonymous for 47 years and was always willing to help a person in need. He served as a spiritual director at church and was involved with, Christ Renews His Parish and Marriage Encounter. He loved Jesus with all his heart.
