Eberhard E. Fuhr

A Visitation for Eberhard E. Fuhr, age 92, will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 200 N. Plum Grove Road, Palatine, on Saturday, January 27, 2018 from 9:00 am until the time of the Memorial Service at 10:00 am.

Eberhard passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Monday, January 22, 2018 in Palatine, IL.  He was born in Leverkusen, Germany on April 3, 1925 to Carl and Anna Fuhr.  He was the second of three children.  He emigrated with his parents to the U.S. in 1928.  He attended Woodward High School in Cincinnati, Ohio until he was compelled to join his parents in a German-Japanese internment center in Crystal City, Texas.  There he met and fell in love with another detainee, Barbara Minner.  After his release from detention in September 1947, he and Barbara became engaged and married in 1948.

Eb and Barbara moved to St. Peter, MN where he attended Gustavus College for 2 years.  He continued his education at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.  He graduated with a degree in business administration and later worked for Shell Oil company in marketing and sales in Athens, Youngstown, and Cincinnati, Ohio and Rochester, NY.  He later got a masters degree at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.  He worked for a division of Consolidated paper company in Connecticut and New England and then moved to the upper Midwest residing in Minnesota then Illinois until he retired.  Eb remained busy lecturing about European internment during WW II, throughout his retirement.

Eb was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his brothers Julius (Marge) Fuhr and Gary Fuhr, and granddaughter Olivia Skoda.  He is survived by his 3 children John (Kris) Fuhr, Rob (Maureen) Fuhr and Anna (Joe) Skoda.  He is also survived by 7 grandchildren Isaac, Heidi, Elliot, Hannah, Grace, Hope and Julia, as well as seven great grandchildren Isaac, Abigail, Olivia, Karl, Alexia, Cole, and Gabe.
