Visitation for Eleanor Marie Hebert, 78, will be from 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. Friday, August 7, 2015 at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 North Northwest Highway, Palatine. Eleanor will lie in state from 9:00a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass, 10:00a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2015 at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church, 1201 East Anderson Dr., Palatine. The Interment will be private.
She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, July 28, 2015.
Eleanor was the beloved wife of the late Victor Hebert (2012): devoted mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and servant. She married the love of her life, Victor Hebert, on October 10, 1959; loving mother of Ralph (Kim) Hebert, Michele (Brent) Rice, James (Melissa) Hebert, Maureen (Tab) Jensen and John Hebert; and treasured Grandmother to Chase, Cory, Calli, Austin, Alisha, Quin, Dominique, Tyler, Shae and Brett, and great-grandmother to Colton, Dobson and Emma; sister to Agnes (deceased), Norman, Mary, Joanne, Alex.
She was a graduate of Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in Windsor, Ontario in 1959. Eleanor and Victor moved to Palatine, Illinois in 1965, where they lived in the family home for 50 years. She was an ER nurse at Northwest Community Hospital for over 40 years while also working summers at Arlington Park Race Track as a nurse.
She loved to read, play cards and games with her grandkids, shop with her nurse friends, and travel around the world. Her greatest passion was her family. She gave birth to five, but was like a mom to countless others. She made everyone feel like family. Every person that stepped into her home was treated like royalty and fed like kings, even if they weren’t hungry. To know her was to love her and she will be greatly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers all donations will be used to purchase a memorial bench to be placed at Doug Lindberg Park.
