Elizabeth J. Vassallo

Visitation for Elizabeth Joan Vassallo, (nee Bottiger), 73, of Hawthorn Woods, will be held from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich.  A Funeral Mass will be said at 10:30 am on Friday at St. Francis de Sales Church, 33 S. Buesching Rd., Lake Zurich.  The Interment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.

She was born on May 5, 1942, to the late Frederick and Julia Bottiger, in Troy, NY, and passed away June 8, 2015.

She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, in Glens Falls, NY and matriculated at Fairfield University, in Fairfield, CT.  She retired from Allstate Insurance in Northbrook as a Financial Analyst.

She is survived by her loving husband Charles of 51 years, son Brett (Carol Ellman) Vassallo of Wilmette and daughter Jill (Larry) May of Crystal Lake.

She is also survived by her sisters Marion (Harry) Griswold of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Pat Long of Newbury, NH and life-long friend Sylvia (Terry) Guth of Milford, CT.

Elizabeth was an avid reader and accomplished gourmet cook, whose creations were enjoyed by family and friends.  She loved to travel and was a talented painter and seamstress – interests which she applied to her love of decorating.

Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her grandchildren Charlie, John and Lydia Vassallo.  She was frequently seen cheering them on at soccer sidelines, school events and piano recitals.
