Elizabeth L. Tracy

December 12, 1933 — September 2, 2018

Visitation for Elizabeth L. “Betty” Tracy (nee Scherer) will be held Friday September 21, 2018, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine. Prayers will begin Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. also at the Funeral Home, Palatine, followed by a Funeral Mass, 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church, 1201 E. Anderson Drive, Palatine. The Interment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.

Betty entered eternal life at age 84 on September 2, 2018 in Troy, Michigan. Betty was a decades-long resident of Palatine until 2015.

Born December 12, 1933 in Oak Park, Illinois, Betty was the beloved wife of the late Alfred “Kent” Tracy; loving mother of Steven (Wendy) Tracy, Mark (Wendy) Tracy and Sharon (Jeff) Tracy-Wanat; loving grandmother of Samuel and Mathew Tracy, David and Elizabeth Lucky and Jeffrey (Michelle), Victoria, Jenna and Sarah Wanat; dear daughter of the late Harold and Elizabeth (nee Dekreon) Scherer; fond sister of Mary Ann (George) Sargeant and the late Harold “Bud” (Lois) Scherer.

Growing up in Cicero, Illinois, Betty and her sister Mary Ann were inseparable, and you could catch them singing, making up stories and laughing out loud while walking down the street. They remained close even through marriage and family life. After high school, Betty began working at Western Electric where she met Kent and soon they were married and started a family. A loving mother and devoted wife, Betty lived her life in service to her family. While she loved being outside and especially enjoyed walks in the woods and along Lake Michigan or quietly reading on the patio of her long-time home in Palatine, she enjoyed spending time with her family above all else. She embraced the challenge of preparing meals for family and friends especially over the holidays. Betty enjoyed the simple things in life and knew how to make others comfortable.
