Services for Ellen Louise (nee Pischke) Rose, who passed away one week before her 94th birthday on November 22, 2016, will be private.
Ellen was a Lake Zurich resident for more than 20 years and moved to Wauconda in the past few years. Born in Minneapolis on November 29, 1922, to William and Emma Pischke, she married George H. Rose on June 19, 1942. Ellen is survived by her children, Richard Rose (Annette) of Denton, TX and Rhonda (Bill) Kruckenberg of Lake Zurich, IL; her grandchildren, Shannon Herrington, Kristofer Kruckenberg, Brandi Sosnowski and Jackie Ray; her great-grandchildren, Hannah, Jack, Abigail, Nathan, Mason, Colton and Reagan and her sister, Marion Stratemeyer of Thousand Oaks, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; siblings, Alvin Pischke, her twin brother, Elmer Pischke, and Ruth Carlson.
After WWII she was appointed Social Committee Chairman at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus for 3 years. As a stay at home mom, she managed to volunteer in school and church jobs. She took up oil painting after moving to Dallas, TX where she worked in all media but preferred watercolor. Ellen earned Signature status in the National Watercolor Society in 2001. She won top award at College of Lake County’s Recent Works in 2002. Ellen was selected one of ten women honored “Women Artist of the Year” at Lake County Woman’s Coalition in 2003. She was an active member in Arlington Heights Art Guild, Des Plaines Art Guild, and was program chairman for many years at Lakes Region Watercolor Guild.
