Gayle E. Hayes

Services and Interment for Gayle Eugene Hayes, 90, of Palatine, will be private.

He was born in Muncie, IN on September 10, 1932, to Robert and Vera (nee Gordon) Hayes and passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, after a brief illness.

Gayle proudly served in the U.S. Army 1952 -1954 and was stationed West Germany for 18 months.  He graduated Indiana University with a BS degree in Business in 1957 and an MBA in Business Management in 1959.  His career in labor relations took him and his family from Bloomington, IN, Cedar Rapids, IA, Fullerton, CA and Chicago, IL.   He retired in 1997 to spend time with his family.  He really enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and antique cars.  Gayle loves to travel with his wife internationally and have visited many countries in Europe, North America, Scandinavia and Hawaii.  Gayle and Laverne always enjoyed spending the month of February on vacation in Ft. Meyers Beach, FL.

Gayle married Laverne Meyer on January 16, 1955, in Columbus, IN.  He is survived by Laverne; son, Dr. Douglas Gordon (Dawn) Hayes and daughter, Dr. Jean Hayes (James Head) Sophie-Head.  Gayle’s grandchildren include Raymond (Lisa) Sophie, Spencer (Kara) Sophie, Timothy, Philip, and Hope Hayes and step grandson, Douglas Head.  Gayle’s great grandchildren include Madeline and Callie Sophie and Raymond Sophie, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister and grandchild, Allison Hayes.
