Harold was born on the family’s Palatine farm on June 1, 1916 to Daniel and Matilda (nee Schaffer) Bergman. He passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017 in Naperville.
Harold graduated from Palatine High School in 1933 and from the University of Illinois in 1939. In 1940, he married his sweetheart, Elsie. When his father became ill in 1943, he was teaching agriculture in Indiana, Harold returned home to tend to the family farm. Harold operated the Mount Hope Cemetery, which was started by his grandfather. He was very devoted and active at St. John’s United Church of Christ. For many decades, Harold was a Cook County Farm Bureau Member. His life was dedicated to his wife, family and church. His sincere devotion and service to the Lord brought a great sense of purpose and deep meaning into his life. In addition to his spiritual devotion, he was committed to his partnership with his loving wife in the tending of the family farm. He felt at home when out in the warm fields driving the tractor and bailing hay.
He was the husband of the late Elsie. He is survived by his son, Stephen (Maureen) Bergman; cherished Uncle of Tom (Lis) Bergman, Dan Bergman, Bob (Debbie) Kabler, Bill (Debbie) Kabler and Tom (Laura) Kabler; dear grandfather of Julie (Patrick) Horn, Cliff (Michelle) Roberts, Tamara (John) Vershay, Michelle Roberts and Douglas (Julie) Roberts; and fond great-grandfather of Connor, Caitlin & Ryan Horn, Regan & Dylan Roberts, Riley & Jack Roberts, and Molly Vershay.
Harold was preceded in death by his daughter, Georgia (Rick) Alspach, and his brother, Vernon Bergman.
