Helen J. Hycnar

Visitation for Helen J. Hycnar (nee Luczak), 87, a longtime resident of Palatine, will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine.

Prayers will begin Thursday, 9:30 a.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, Palatine; proceeding to St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church, 1201 E. Anderson Drive, Palatine, for a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass.  The Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, River Grove.

Helen was born April 28, 1927 in Cicero, Ill., and she passed away October 12, 2014 at JourneyCare, in Barrington, Ill.

Helen was a volunteer for the senior center in Palatine for 15 years.  She also enjoyed shuffleboard, horseshoes, gardening and bingo.  Her children were her joy and the love of her life.

Survivors include her children, John M. Hycnar and Linda Hycnar; niece, Patricia (Bruce) Siegel, nephew, Donald (Frances) Luczak; great-niece, Katie Siegel; great-nephews, Kevin Siegel and Tyler Luczak, sister-in-laws, Anne (late Ed) Skaja and Marilyn Birr; the Bierla family and cousins, Stanislaw, Czesia, Teresa and Maria in Poland; and also surviving are many nieces and nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Hycnar; parents Martin and Frances (nee Niklewicz) Luczak; brother, Stanley (Sophie) Luczak; sister-in-laws, Helen (Matt) Slonina , Alice (Stanley) Stasica and Esther (Frank) Zwierzyna.
