Visitation for James Glogovsky, 74, of Algonquin, former longtime resident of Lake Zurich, will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich. Prayers will be said Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, proceeding to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 33 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich, for a funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Father David Ryan will officiate. A private inurnment will be in Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville.
Born July 6, 1939, in North Chicago, he died Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at home in his winter residence in Merritt Island, Florida.
Jim “Ski” Glogovsky attended North Elementary School in North Chicago and then graduated from North Chicago High School. Jim was a member of the school’s basketball and baseball teams and later played semi-professional baseball. He met the love of his life, Mary Kay Glogovsky (nee Gont) and they were later married in 1959, in North Chicago, at Holy Family Church.
Jim attended the Chicago Police Academy and began his law enforcement career in Waukegan, IL as a detective. He and his family moved to Lake Zurich in 1971 where Jim became a patrolman, and later Chief, with the Lake Zurich Police Department. Jim enjoyed playing on the department’s softball team and golf league, and he treasured the friendship of his fellow officers, buddies at the bait shop and other members of the close-knit community, where he and his family were blessed to set down roots. Jim was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and served with Mary Kay with the parish’s Ministry of Care.
Jim was a member of the Lake County Chiefs Association, served as the organization’s President, and advocated for positive relations between youth and law enforcement.
Jim retired from the Lake Zurich Police Department in 1991, after which he and Mary Kay resided in Illinois and wintered in Merritt Island, Florida. Jim and Mary Kay established wonderful friendships throughout their travels and made many happy memories together.
Jim was the beloved husband of the late Mary Kay Glogovsky; loving father of Margie (Tom) O’Neill, Karan Miller, Jamie (Fred) Hoeft and Nancy Glogovsky; loving grandfather of James (Heather) Hoeft, Kathy and Nancy O’Neill, and Jordan and Nick Miller; dear brother of Joseph (Carol) Glogovsky, and also surviving are many other loving family, nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stephan and mother Pauline (nee Drinka); brothers, Thomas, George, Steve (Donna) and Frank (Kay); and sisters Elizabeth (Richard) Redmer and Mary (Paul) Pobicki.
