Jean M. Schlobohm

April 16, 1955 — December 21, 2019

A Memorial Visitation for Jean M. Schlobohm, 64, of Palatine, IL will be held Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1190 N. Hicks Rd, Palatine, from 1:00p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 2:00p.m., with a reception to follow.

Jean Marie Schlobohm (née Johnson) was born April 16, 1955 in Oak Park, Illinois to Russ and Joan Johnson. Jean was the first of five kids, which gave her a front row seat to a childhood full of tomfoolery. She attended school at Lake Park High School and attended university at Ripon College. Jean met her husband Mark Schlobohm at a performance of his Grateful Dead cover band when she accidentally lit his hair on fire. Despite that explosive introduction, a love was kindled and they later married. From that union was born what Jean would call her greatest achievement: their daughter, Jessica.

Jean and Mark lived in Berwyn before moving to Palatine and working at the USPS facility together until Mark passed in 2004. Jean remained with the USPS until retiring in 2009, providing her with more time to serve others, which gave her much joy. She was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church where she was involved in many ways, including serving in her Peace Group and acting as a leader of GriefShare for many years. She also felt called to show the love of Jesus by serving those who were sick or in need through volunteering with Phil’s Friends or making blankets with Hope Shawls. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and they enjoyed their Yaya’s visits and outings.

She is survived by her daughter Jessica (RC) Jones, grandchildren Jolie and Riley, her sisters Joanne Kalscheur and Judy (Don) Johnson, her brother Bob (Theresa) Johnson as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Mark, her parents, her brother Russell and brothers-in-law Ken Kalscheur and Stan Ohama.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s name may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (www.pop.church) and Phil’s Friends (https://philsfriends.org)
