Jeffrey G. Kern

A Memorial Service for Jeffrey G. Kern, 76, will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the Presbyterian Church of Palatine, 800 E. Palatine Road, Palatine. The Interment will be private.

He was born on May 28, 1947, and died peacefully on September 1, 2023.

Jeff is preceded in death by his father, Byron M. Kern, and his mother, Mary Ann (née Green) Kern. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Anita (née Schowalter), his sister, Becky Shorter, and sons, Byron (Elise), Scott (Adee) and Peter (Nicole).

He took great joy in the love he had for his grandchildren: Leo, Mikaela, Theo, Louie, and Damien.

Jeff was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1974. He continued to work and participate in the sports and “dad” activities he loved until the mid-1990 when disabilities from the disease became too pronounced. He loved almost all sports, reading, movies, any game that challenged his mind, good food, and most of all, time with family and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Church of Palatine.
