Jon C. Kinney

Visitation for Jon C. Kinney, 81, will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine.

Jon completed his journey here on earth on February 23, 2024. He was born in Chicago February 18, 1943, to the late Charles and Thelma Kinney. After marrying his wife Lois, they lived in Hoffman Estates, Inverness, Killdeer, and Barrington. Jon attended the University of Illinois where he received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and earned his Masters of Business Administration/ Accounting from DePaul University, Chicago. He was also a Certified Public Accountant. Jon began his career with Arthur Andersen as a CPA, however the majority of his career was with Illinois Tool Works (ITW) where he spent 32 years in various leadership roles. The last nine years he served in the distinguished role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) before his well-deserved retirement in 2005.

Jon is survived by his wife Lois; four children, Sharyn (Andy) Shane, Richard (Sue) Kinney, Michael (Mary) Kinney, Steve (Melissa) Kinney; and ten Grandchildren, RJ Kinney, Madi Rosen, Dylan Shane, Emily Kinney, Bradley Kinney, Joseph Muhs, Justin Muhs, Taylor Calhoun, Jacob Kinney and Ashley Butler. Lucy was his beloved dog and protector to the end.

Jon and Lois were married 50 wonderful years. He was a devoted and loving husband and father, with family being his highest priority. Everyone was drawn to his magnetic personality. Jon loved good conversation and was funny and fun loving. He was caring and compassionate towards those in need and didn’t hesitate to reach out in ways that made a difference in lives. He truly served as a role model to his children, grandchildren and many others.  He had a broad range of interests and hobbies including photography, gardening, reading, music, art, and travel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Resources for Community Living, Journey Care Hospice, or the American Lung Association.
