Kay Y. Ivarson

March 22, 1942 — June 16, 2019

A Visitation for Kay Y. Ivarson, 77, of Palatine, will be held Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine. The Visitation will continue on June 21, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service, 11:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1190 N. Hicks Road, Palatine. A scattering will take place on Saturday, June 29, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at Windridge Cemetery, Cary.

Kay was born in Davenport, Iowa, on March 22, 1942. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1960 moving on to attend Carthage College in Carthage, IL. She graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Elementary Education. Kay married Dave on June 13, 1964 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa. She moved to Evanston, IL with her new husband and began a teaching career. She taught third grade for five years at School District 23 in Prospect Heights, IL. After the birth of her children she was a stay at home mom and volunteer in various organizations including; Virginia Lake PTA, Sundling Junior High School PTSA, and Palatine High School VIP. At the same time she was involved with numerous church committees and ministries as well as Tri-T which provides camping experiences for deserving young girls. She then reentered the work force as parish secretary for over twenty years at various churches until retiring from Bethel Lutheran Church in 2016. During her life Kay was an enormous fan of the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bears, NASCAR but above all her children’s and grandchildren’s activities; including little league sports and musical performances. She liked reading, wine tastings, and visiting with friends and family. She enjoyed visiting various lighthouses on Lake Michigan and Lake Superior as well as traveling around the country to historic and scenic sites.

Kay is survived by her husband of 55 years Dave Ivarson; Kristina (Jeffrey) Ahlgrim and Jeffrey (Kjersten) Ivarson; Grandchildren Danielle, Anna, Matthew, Andrew, Joseph, Emma; her brother Richard (Molly) Zarn.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ed and Lila Zarn and her brother Gerald Zarn.

Kay will be remembered for her strong faith and love for her family.
