Leona W. Johnson, 81, a lifelong resident of Palatine.
Visitation for Leona W. Johnson will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2013 from 2:00pm to 8:00pm at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine. Visitation will also be held on Monday, May 6, 2013 from 12:00pm until the time of the funeral service at 1:00pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 200 N. Plum Grove Road, Palatine. The interment will follow at Randhill Park Cemetery, Arlington Heights.
Leona was born on July 12, 1931 in Palatine, IL the daughter of the late William A. and Emma (nee Frost) Weide and passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the Brentwood North Healthcare Center in River Woods.
Leona was a member and past president of the Palatine American Legion Post #690 Auxiliary, the Arlington Heights V.F.W. Post #981 Auxiliary, a Goldstar Sister of her brother Edward L. Weide and also a life member of ImmanuelLutheranChurch in Palatine.
Leona was the beloved wife of the late John Lester “Les” Johnson; loving mother of Susan (Alfred) Schuld and Joni (Karl) Kulp; grandmother of Walter (Suzanne) Maklezow, Jr., John (Jacqueline) Maklezow, and Alexandra (Adrian Gomez) Maklezow; great grandmother of Felicity, Anika and Natalia Maklezow and Alexa Gomez; also survived by her lifelong devoted friend and neighbor Maggie Nabors; preceded in death by her brothers Edward and Marvin Weide.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff of the BrentwoodNorthHealthcareCenter in River Woods and Passages Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion they had for Leona while she resided there.
