Liane passed quietly surrounded by family at JourneyCare Care Center in Barrington early Friday morning, May 25, 2018. She was born January 27, 1931 in Chicago, IL. She married Norman (Sandy) Falkanger September 6, 1952 in Chicago and would have been married 66 years this September.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents Bill and Martha Robertson and her husband Norman Falkanger. She is survived by her four children: Bill (Marcia) Falkanger, Scott (Mary) Falkanger, Kristy (Bill Schroeder) Riedel, and Heidi Falkanger Peters. She has seven grandchildren: Lindsey, Jamie, Douglas, Bill, Sandra, Ben and Morgan and she has 8 great grandchildren (very soon to be 9). She had a particular soft spot for the great grand kids and loved their pictures which were displayed all around her home.
Much of her married life with her kids was spent in Palatine where the family moved to from Hoffman Estates in approximately 1965. It was here that Norman operated a real estate brokerage and appraisal business which Liane participated and worked with for decades. Both were very active in the community partially including the Rotary Club, Buehler YMCA, Winston Park Grade School PTA, Palatine High School, the “Bunko Broads” and others. It was during their time here that many very close friendships were made and although this number has dwindled due to age, many remained to this day.
Liane grew up near Wrigley Field and was a long time die-hard Cub fan which was clearly evident in her home decor. When she was driving, her Highlander was also a give-away to her loyalty. The blue and red props made her car easy to pick out even in a crowded parking lot. She had the good fortune of seeing her team finally win the world series!
Vikings and Norwegian flags were also displayed throughout the home. Her mother Martha was born in Norway and she married Norman another Norwegian who had a father who was born in Norway. She was really proud of this heritage.
Liane loved to travel and when vacation pictures were shared and future plans discussed she was always encouraging with “don’t ever stop doing it – boy your dad and I sure had some fun”. She loved the Florida Keys, where they had a second home and frequented often, and on her last trip she cooked up her famous corn beef dinner on St. Patrick’s Day.
Liane really enjoyed her time living at Lake Barrington Woods where often times she was hard to find in her apartment. She had the kindest heart and loved to socialize. It was an especially warm and loving Mother’s Day this year for all four of us kids along with some of the grandkids as we were able to celebrate, share stories, and kid around while she beamed with an ear to ear grin. This is the way we will always remember her – happy, smiling, loving, and kind.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to JourneyCare Foundation, 2050 Claire Court, Glenview, IL 60025 or online at: journeycare.org.
