Lolita, known as Lita to friends and family was born on July 15, 1946 to Ronald "Lefty" and Helen Johnson. She passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
Lita was the beloved wife of the late Howard who died in 1996; loving mother of Kevin (Sonya Redman) Matczynski, Carrie Matczynski, and Mandy Mitchell; cherished grandmother of Haley Scudder, Howie Matczynski, and Lex Mitchell; and fond great-grandmother of Envy Scudder.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Terry Johnson.
Lita grew up in a Catholic home and attended Immaculate Conception Elementary School and later Resurrection Catholic High School where she learned her love of God and sense of style, class and morals that were ever present throughout her life. The same values were instilled as she raised her son and two daughters which were her greatest accomplishments in life.
Lita was a lover of animals especially her beloved dogs including Dutchess, Wally, Buck, Sasha, Sadie, Beau, Hexa, Tripp, Tinkerbell, Bella, Briggs, Shelby, Holly, Diesel and Paris. Throughout her life, Lita always made sure to donate to animal rescues and organizations such as Save-A-Pet, Orphans of the Storm and Paws Chicago among the many.
Lita was successful in business having served as a postal clerk at the Mundelein, IL post office and helping Howard run Howard Electric for many years. She was a co-owner of PIP Printing, a printing company, as well as the owner of Family Builders, a custom home builder where she designed and built at least 9 residential homes in the Lake County area.
Lita passed her time enjoying many activities such as professional bowling where she competed in many tournaments and competitions and traveled the country to cities such as Las Vegas, Nevada and Anaheim, California. She also taught children how to bowl and bowled in leagues with her husband, brother, daughters and son. She loved to hate the game of golf, but enjoyed even more golfing with family and friends. Loved ones will always remember her love of the “dream home” which she and Howard built in Hawthorn Woods in 1980 which was always tastefully decorated and her impeccably landscaped yard which she received the “Excellence in Gardening Award” in her community in 2023.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the remarkable nursing staff at Journey Care Home Health of Barrington, IL for their compassion, dignity and personal care during Lita’s final days.
