Visitation for Louise Helen Copping, 95, of Palatine, will be on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 200 N. Plum Grove Road, Palatine, from 10:00 AM until the time of the Funeral at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will follow at the church fellowship hall immediately after the Funeral. Family and friends will meet for the Interment at 2:00 PM at All Saints Polish National Catholic Cemetery, 9201 West Higgins Road, Chicago.
Louise was born December 17, 1928, to Louis and Helen Schoenfeldt. She passed away on August 28, 2024.
Louise grew up in Chicago, attending Farnsworth Elementary School and Taft High School. After graduating high school, she began her career as a secretary, eventually working at Montgomery Ward, where she met her husband, Clarence. Louise and Clarence were married on April 25, 1951, and lived in Texas and Wyoming before returning to Chicago. In 1954, they moved to Palatine to live and raise their family.
After her children were older, Louise returned to work as a receptionist for a Palatine dentist and later as a typist in Faculty Services at Palatine High School. At both jobs, she made many dear friends with whom she stayed connected after her retirement.
Louise’s hobbies were sewing, drawing, and painting. She sewed clothing for herself, her daughter and granddaughters, and their dolls—Barbie, Cabbage Patch, and American Girl—along with Halloween costumes, stuffed animals, and other soft toys.
When both Louise and Clarence retired, they were able to travel, especially enjoying trips to England, Europe, and Australia. Retirement also gave them a chance to get to know their neighbors better and to join the Over 50’s group at Immanuel. Louise and Clarence’s family would like to thank those neighbors and Over 50’s members for their friendship and their help when Mom and Dad needed them.
Louise was the beloved wife of Clarence H. Copping for 73 years; the loving mother of Clarence C. (Donna) Copping and Claudia Pragman; cherished grandmother of Alexa (David Norton) Pragman, Alison Pragman, Samantha (Peter) Kang; and Courtney (Cameron) Soderberg; dear great-grandmother of Oliver & Aurelia Norton, Simon & Benedict Kang, and Roy Soderberg. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sally Schoenfeldt, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorraine and Walter Wadington, and Gloria and Walter Schmidt, her brother Louis F. Schoenfeldt and her son-in-law, James H. Pragman.
