Marcia Lynn Hammond

Visitation for Marcia Lynn Hammond, 78, of Kildeer for 30 years, will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 3:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 pm at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 415 S. Buesching Rd, Lake Zurich. The interment will be private.

Marcia was born September 3, 1945 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, to Harry and Marjorie (nee Little) Coffman. She passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023 surrounded by her family.

Marcia grew up in Chicago and attended Chicago Public Schools graduating from Schurz High School in 1963. She earned her Bachelor’s degree at Michigan State University and Masters’ at Northern Illinois University and spent her entire teaching career teaching science in Illinois High School District 214; first at Arlington High School and then Wheeling High School, retiring in 2001. In her “spare time” she earned an accounting certificate at College of Lake County. She was also involved in many activities during retirement including golf, traveling (particularly cruising), Disney World, Maj Jongg with her many friends, and doing crossword puzzles while listening to WGN radio.

Marcia is survived by her husband, Darrell, whom she married in 1969; daughters, Dr. Melissa June Rangel of Woodstock and Dr. Michelle Anne Hammond of Crystal Lake; grandchildren, Calista Rose and Emma Geneveve Rangel; brother-in-laws, Gregory Havrilcsak of Frankenmuth, Michigan and Kenneth Eglaston of Hoffman Estates; along with many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Heather (Coffman) Eglaston and Candi (Coffman) Bone; and her parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to a favorite charity.
