Maria was born on March 29, 1975, in Carrizo Springs, TX, to Jose Armando and Rosa Elia Lira.  She passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023, surrounded by her family at The University of Chicago Medical Center.

Maria was a sports enthusiast. She loved the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys. She enjoyed playing sports with her nephews in the backyard, spending time with her sister, Rosa “Ro Ro”, attending Cubs games, fantasy football, grilling out and annual trips to the Wisconsin state fair. Together with Shane, she was fond of watching movies, relaxing and spending quality time. Maria cherished spending time with family, hosting family gatherings and celebrating the holidays. From early October until the end of December, her home consisted of holiday decorating, movies, television specials, baking, and holiday centered festivities. Anyone who has ever met Maria truly enjoyed her as a person. She had a heart of gold, an excellent personality, a great sense of humor, and was always a pleasure to be around.

Maria is survived by her devoted husband of 19 years, her sweetheart as she called him, Shane Krupinski. Maria and Shane have been best friends and life partners for the last 27 years and she will always remain his forever love. Maria is also survived by her parents, Jose Armando and Rosa Elia Lira; in-laws, Gary and Jeannie Krupinski; adoring siblings, Rose Angelica, Vicente (Lupe), Javier, Joey, Alejandro (Marisol), Ricardo (Ana) Lira, sister-in-law, Erin (Thomas) Christor; and her precious little boy, Chiquis.

Maria was a devoted aunt and great-aunt.  She leaves behind, Juan (Alejandra) Contreras, Erica (Cesar) Gutierrez, Yulissa, Selainy, Valentino, Avianna, Yahaira, Reymundo, Sierra, Justin, Marilexy, Ricardo Jr, Miguel Angel, Alexandra, Elena Lira, May, Ethan, Noah Krupinski, TJ, Alexis, Serenidy Christor, Liam, Vanessa Mariana, Juan Raul III Contreras, and Melanie Gutierrez. She was also the adoring godmother of Erica, (May, Ethan, Noah, TJ-lovingly referred to as her nephew-children) and Jenessa Hernandez.

Maria has many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who are left with fond memories of the wonderful person she was; especially her dear cousins Salvador and Andres Hernandez, Adriana Ramon, Maggie O’Loughlin and close friend, Rachel Hird. She was preceded in death and welcomed into heaven by her paternal grandparents, Estevan Lira and Mariana Matamoros de Lira; maternal grandparents, Vicente and Concepcion Ramon; grandmother-in-law, Charlotte Krupinski; precious goddaughter and niece, Vanessa Contreras; great-nephew, Dariel Gutierrez; and cousins, Melissa Ramon and Angel Hernandez.
