Maria Macrander

Visitation for Maria Macrander-Ogterop will be held Sunday, June 23, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 3:00 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine. Family and friends will meet Monday, June 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Assumption Cemetery, Wheaton, for the Interment.

Maria passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024, at the age of 98 and a half.

She survived her beloved husband, the late Max Macrander, by 25 years. They had emigrated to the US from the Netherlands in 1958 and settled into life in Winfield, Illinois. She and her family then moved to Wheaton and later to Warrenville.

She was a wonderful homemaker and also provided childcare for working parents for many years. She loved gardening and doted on her ever-expanding family in the US. She was also a fervent tennis fan, often very attentive to matches at grand slam tournaments. She remained close to her family in Holland, returning frequently for visits.

She is survived by daughters, Anne Marie Sauter and Catherine Macrander and by sons, Steve and Albert; as well as 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested for the Morton Arboretum, in Lisle.
