Marilyn I. Guthrie

A Memorial Visitation for Marilyn I. Guthrie, 92, of Palatine, will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine. The Interment will be held privately at a later date.

Marilyn (Lynn) Guthrie (nee Erickson) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on March 29, 2023.

The youngest of four children, Marilyn was born on December 19, 1930, in Aurora, IL. After attending Northern Illinois University, she taught elementary school in Aurora. She married Richard S. Guthrie, Jr after his return from serving in Korea. A devoted wife and mother of five, Marilyn dedicated herself selflessly to those she loved.

Marilyn was an enthusiastic runner, cyclist, swimmer and cross country skier. She enjoyed competing in the Senior Olympics and hiked the Grand Canyon from rim to rim at age 70.

Marilyn’s creative talents included painting, crafts, sewing and crocheting beautiful afghans for loved ones. Her homemade brownies and cookies were the best!

Marilyn is survived by children, Gwendolyn (Marco) Rivera, Robert (Jennifer) Guthrie, Richard (Karen) Guthrie, Marcia Huffman, Mary (Wendel) McRaven; ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by Richard, her beloved husband of 65 years.
