Marion A. Hazel

September 23, 1933 — March 30, 2025

McHenry

Visitation for Marion A. Hazel (Nee Davidson), 91, of McHenry, formerly of Palatine, will be held from 10:00am until the time of the Funeral Service at 12:00pm, Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy, Palatine. The Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.

Marion was born September 23, 1933, in Scotland, and passed away March 30, 2025, in Crystal Lake.

Marion was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Hazel; loving mother of Andrew (Susan) Hazel, Brenda (Richard Wilhelm) Sakas and the late Alan (Cindy) Hazel; loving grandmother of Thomas, Allison, Anne, Bill, Dan, Kevin and Scott; cherished great-grandmother of Andrew (Cole), Charlee, Hunter, Addison, Harlynn and the late beloved twins, Benson and Colbie; dear daughter of the late William and Marion (Alexander) Davidson; fond sister of Jeanette. Marion had 12 siblings.

Marion and Tom honeymooned on the Queen Elizabeth passenger ship as they emigrated to the U.S. in 1955. They settled in Minneapolis. Both worked for Honeywell where Marion put her bookkeeping talents to use – not only did she acquire those skills during her Scottish schooldays, she was the center for her basketball squad then too. Of course, they did miss Scotland and wrote often ‘back home’. Soon, many family members joined them in Minnesota. They uprooted once again when Honeywell transferred them to Chicago, and they built a home in Palatine. Never a dull moment from the start. So much laughter, so many friends, too much merriment. She missed her late husband, Tom; and her late devoted son, Alan.

Marion enjoyed her return trips to Scotland and England over the years. During her time in Woodstock, Illinois, often you could meet her walking the square. She was loved by so many in both her new and old countries. She brought a lot of joy to a lot of lives. If we ever had questions about the past, she had the answers, in detail. She was a keen wit and an expert Jeopardy player. We love her and will miss her deeply.
