Marion Waymel

d. March 22, 2016

Visitation for Marion Waymel, of Arlington Heights, will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 AM, Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Parish, 1201 E. Anderson Drive, Palatine.  A private family interment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.

Marion was born to eternal life Tuesday morning, March 22, 2016, at 87 years young.  She was a loving wife to Romain for 59 years and mother to three children, grandmother to 11 and great-grandmother to 15.  She excelled in learning and teaching, and as a young woman received scholarships to St. Scholastica Academy and Mundelein College in Chicago.  She taught hundreds of 3rd, 4th and 5th grade children over the course of 30 years, primarily at St. Collette in Rolling Meadows and Virginia Lake in Palatine.

The only child of immigrant European parents, Marion loved to travel with her family and believed this was also a form of teaching her children about life, the United States and beyond.  By their teenage years, the children had visited 35 states, swam in both coastal oceans, and crossed borders into Canada and Mexico.  She was also an avid bridge player and won multiple tournaments at St. Teresa Parish in Palatine for both “couples”- partnering with her husband, and women’s group duplicate bridge.  Marion’s strong faith was a beacon for her children and she remained a devout Roman Catholic throughout her life.

No longer in pain from medical challenges, she is now reunited with Romain and son-in-law Robert Fernstrom for eternity with our Lord.  Marion is survived by her children, Louise Fernstrom, Steven (Annette) Waymel and John (Patricia) Waymel.
