Martin was born on September 27, 1935, to Martin Joseph Hedrich, Sr & Loretto Hedrich. He passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025.

A proud graduate of DePaul Academy and DePaul University, Martin remained a lifelong Blue Demons fan. The DePaul family legacy continued with his daughter and today with his granddaughters. He served his country with distinction in the U.S. Army as part of the Army Intelligence Corps—a role he often joked was an oxymoron.

Martin’s love for sports ran deep. In his youth, he played baseball for a Philadelphia Phillies semi-pro team and remained a devoted fan of both the Chicago White Sox and NY Yankees throughout his life. Some of his cherished childhood memories were attending the first series Jackie Robinson played at Wrigley Field and a cross-country trip to New York to watch his beloved Yankees. His love for baseball continued as he coached his sons in little league for many years and was revered by many neighborhood kids as “Coach”.

A third-generation plumber, Martin inherited Hi-Grade Plumbing and carried on the family tradition with pride and dedication. He was loved by and served many loyal customers. The trades continue today into its fourth generation with his sons—a testament to his enduring influence and commitment to excellence.

Martin instilled a strong work ethic in his children, a legacy that will continue to shape their lives. Known for his generosity and caring nature, he lived simply and valued people over possessions.

Martin was the beloved husband of Jeanette Hedrich, loving father of Jeanne (the late Jay) Hedgepeth, Martin Joseph Hedrich III, Matthew (Holly) Hedrich, Michael (Vivian) Hedrich, Jill (Ken) Anderson, and Julie (Tom) Aylmer; cherished grandfather of Alyssa, Christina, Molly, Matthew Jr, Luke, Bridget, Mary, Grace, Rosie, Charles, and Angela; fond great-grandfather of Bella; and dear brother of Susanne (the late Robert) Wolf, Jane (Ray) Roschmann, Mary (Stanley) Gnoske; and Julie (Alexander) Gyarmaty. He was a cherished uncle of many.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the DePaul University Arthur J. Schmitt Foundation.
