Mary A. Serna

A Funeral Mass for Mary Aurora Serna (nee Lopez), a resident of Lake Zurich, Il, will be celebrated at St. Francis de Sales church in Lake Zurich, Illinois, on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM.  Relatives and Friends are most welcome to attend. Visiting hours will precede the Mass from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM also at St Francis de Sales church.

Mary is the beloved wife of 61 years to Carlos Serna, cherished mother and grandmother, passed peacefully from this life at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington Illinois, early on the morning of January 17, 2014.  She was 83 years old.

Born in Los Angeles, California on June 23, 1930, Mary was the beloved daughter of the late Felix and Rosario Lopez of Los Angeles.  Mary and Carlos lived in Los Angeles and were active members of Our Lady of Guadalupe church until moving to Lake Zurich, Illinois 10 years ago to be with their daughter. Mary was a devoted parishioner of St Francis de Sales church in Lake Zurich.  In her spare time, Mary was passionate about crocheting, and donated or gifted much of her work as well as other craft projects to family, friends, and her parish.  She recently crocheted for the Prayer Shawl ministry at St Francis de Sales.  Mary was an avid reader, mysteries being one of her favorites.  Her reading also included many spiritual and theological works of the church.  She was also an excellent cook, and spent her last Christmas holiday preparing a traditional feast for her loved ones in Lake Zurich.  Above all, Mary enjoyed spending time with her treasured family and friends.

In addition to her devoted husband, Carlos, she will be very greatly missed by her loving children:  Lupe Wood and her husband Bruce of Lake Zurich, Illinois, Frank and his wife Norma Villarreal of Andover Massachusetts, Grandchildren:  Daniel of Austin, Texas, Brian and his wife Gabriela of Long Grove, Illinois, Martin of Andover, Massachusetts, and Nicolas of Chicago, Illinois.
