Visitation for Mary Kaye Pollard (nee Norys), 54, of Rolling Meadows, will be held Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine, IL 60067. Prayers will begin Friday, March 28, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. also at the Funeral Home and proceed to St. Theresa Catholic Church, 455 N. Benton Street, Palatine, IL, 60067, for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. The Interment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.
Mary was born April 27, 1970 and passed away unexpectedly, March 18, 2025.
Mary was the beloved wife of Michael E. Pollard; loving mother of Mark (27), John (24), and Annmarie (20); dearest daughter of Gail (late husband Stephen, 2018) Norys (nee Wesolek); and fond sister of Steve, Jerry, Lori, and Greg.
Mary was the youngest of the five children. She was raised in Palatine, Illinois. She attended Pleasant Hill grammar school and Sacred Heart High School (where she was an alumni of the last graduating class of Sacred Heart and part of the initial cohort when Sacred Heart merged with St. Viator's). She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Education from St. Xavier University, where she would meet her future husband. She and Michael would go on to marry January 29, 1995. Mary taught first grade at Lake in the Hills elementary school. During this time, she obtained her Master’s degree in Education. As a teacher, Mary could be found interacting with and instructing her students at least as often sitting on the floor with them at the learning stations in her classroom as she could be seen instructing them from the front of the classroom using the white board. While Mary loved teaching, her most fulfilling “classroom” was the one at home raising the couple's three children. Mary never doubted her choice to stay at home to raise her children and cherished in her heart every moment of this. Seeing her children off to college and take their first steps into the world was a profound joy to her. She was also looking forward to creating new memories with her husband as well.
Mary Kaye was blessed to have numerous friends as well as being “Mom number two” to several friends of her three children. Her legacy will live on not only through her three children but also through all those with whom she was able to share in their life journeys. She will be missed by all.
