Maryann J. Ostrem

We celebrate the life of Maryann J. (nee Gehrke) Ostrem, 83, of Palatine, with a visitation held on Friday, June 4, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1190 N. Hicks Road, Palatine.  The Interment will follow at Randhill Park Cemetery, Arlington Heights.

Maryann was a former longtime resident of Long Grove, who passed peacefully into Eternal Life and joined her heavenly father, on May 27, 2021 in Tampa, Florida.

Maryann was born May 27, 1938, in Chicago, to the late Herbert and Mildred (nee Garms) Gehrke.  After graduating from Palatine High School, she then married the love of her life, Fred Ostrem, who preceded her in death after 51 years of marriage.

The Ostrem family were founding members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.  Volunteering with local gardening clubs was one of Maryann’s many passions.

Maryann was a proud mother of her children, Matthew (Robyn); Tampa, Florida and Amy (Karl) Miller; Augusta, Michigan; devoted and loving grandmother to her grandchildren, Kathryn and Olivia Ostrem, and Riley and Jordan Miller.  Maryann is survived by her sister Judith Sailor. Maryann was the aunt of many nieces and nephews and a loyal friend to many.  She lived a full and exemplary life, dedicated to her family, church and the communities of Long Grove and Palatine.

Much gratitude to the staff at the Estate at Hyde Park in Tampa, Florida for their care and kindness throughout Maryann’s journey with Alzheimer’s.  We also would like to acknowledge that Maryann’s journey at the end was all the better because of the amazing care and guidance of Melech Hospice House.
