Maureen T. Austin

Maureen Therese Austin, 82, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2024.

Maureen was born in Chicago on January 8, 1942, to Joseph and Marie Holohan. She was a registered nurse for over 50 years and loved taking care of others. While she called Chicago and later Palatine her home, she also lived and worked in Hawaii, California, Rhode Island and North Carolina. She was recently honored for serving on the Palatine Board of Health for over 20 years. She loved to travel, garden, play Mahjong, watch sports and most of all spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Together they enjoyed many games, sleepovers and donuts on the weekends. 

Maureen is survived by her daughters Dawn Austin and Terri Austin-Martin (Skip), her grandchildren Caitlyn (Nick), Dillon (Ashlie) and Delaney, her great grandson Tommy, her sister Rita Phillips (John), her nephews Tim and Trent (Kristin) and her grandnieces and nephew Izzy, Addie and Liam, her life-long friends Diane and Jack Weniger, and many other friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Joseph Holohan.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Palatine Senior Center or St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital.

A Memorial Service for Maureen will be held at a later date.
