Visitation for Neil O’Brien, 81, of Arlington Heights formerly of Chicago and Elmwood Park, will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 from 3:00PM until 8:00PM at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine and from 9:30AM until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30AM on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2515 Palatine Road, Inverness.  The Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL.

Neil was born on May 25, 1934 in Chicago, IL the son of the late Cornelius and Nora (nee Collins) O’Brien and passed away on Monday, September 21, 2015, which was his mother’s birthday.

Beloved husband of 47 years of Lynne (nee Barkowitz) O’Brien; loving father of John (Katie) O’Brien, Dr. Erin (Dr. Dennis Kellar) O’Brien, Meghan (Chris Faust) O’Brien, Michael O’Brien and the late Baby Neil, David and Daniel O’Brien; cherished grandfather of John and Molly O’Brien, Kaitlyn, Keira, Brendan, Gracie and Emma Kellar and Cecilia Faust; brother in law of Judy (Frank) Kamaryt and Richard (Marie) Barkowitz; cherished uncle of the McHale, Kamaryt, Barkowitz and O’Brien children and many grandnieces and grandnephews; beloved godfather to many; predeceased in death by siblings Connie McHale and James O’Brien.

Prior to retirement, Neil spent his entire career as a men’s apparel executive with Oxxford Clothing and Brioni.  His life revolved around his wife and their family.  He was very devoted throughout the years with coaching his children’s athletic teams, attending their special events and he truly cherished Sunday dinners with his family and his sister Connie.  In retirement, he most enjoyed the time he would spend with his grandchildren.  Neil was a lifelong Cub’s fan.

The family would like to thank the staff of Good Shepherd Hospital and Alden Estates of Barrington for the exceptional care they provided for Neil.
